Our trip to the store...

Yesterday we went to a store that was far away that shall remain nameless (perhaps birthday gifts for certain people were bought there). Paige peed on the potty before we left but as we were at the store she said she had to pee on the potty. I brought her into the bathroom and attempted to use her fold up potty seat which she would not allow, and I also tried to hold her. When I held her she let out maybe 2 drops and then she was "done" and wanted "clothes back on". We went around the store a bit more and as we were about to leave she yelled "poo on potty!". I told her to hold it in and we walked around a mall a bit and then tried the bathroom again. Would not go. We got in the car where she shortly started to cry and scream "POO ON POTTY!!!" She was completely out of control and we were telling her to just go in her pull up. We finally stopped at a coffee shop since she was practically hyperventalating. She asked to go back to the original store to "poo on potty in store". We finally had to lie to say we were going back to the store. Once she calmed down she finally peed in the pull up.

So what I want to know is, how am I going to get her to go in the store?? So far I have tried to make her go at familiar places like Second Cup and gymnastics. If she had been able to go at the store yesterday, she could have easily worn underwear since she is obviously capable of letting me know when she has to go. (At home she wears underwear now with few accidents). At the park last night however, and probably because she knew was having fun, there was no option of a washroom, and she had had 3 cups of milk for dinner, she said "pee on potty" and obviously went in the pull up right away....so I know she still needs pull ups. But how on earth am I going to get her to go in the store???

Your probably asking the wrong person here as to this day I have to go 'really bad' before I can go anywhere strange......however, I dont think there is trick to it just part of the training process. She will eventually get it, that she has no options. Most toddlers fuss about this but it won't last long. On the flip side, sometimes they are so enchanted by 'other' washrooms, they constantly fake it just to check them out! hahaha Gramma Val

It'll happen. Keep practicing. I'm glad Leyla is big enough now to hold herself on any toilet seat. It's a big help.

Sorry darling, I know it's a hassle, but you just have to keep going back to the bathroom until she is ready to go. It will only take a few times and she will get comfortable with the situation and it will get easier. Remember that the longer she "holds" the poo, the harder it will be for her to go and then it will create more problems. It would also have been a good time to have had a small potty in the car, one that is her own. You know the kind that looks like a big plastic MUG. I am NOT trying to be a NAG, but it sure came in handy many times when I had three little ones with me in my car, and no place to take them to a bathroom. GOOD LUCK, Gramama
