Kindergarten graduation

Paige is an official Kindergarten Graduate! Each class had a small ceremony in their classrooms where the kids sang a few songs and then the teacher presented them with a certificate.  It definitely did feel a little sad as I really liked her teacher, as did Paige, and she is moving onto a new school next year.

After the classroom presentation everyone headed out for picnic snacks with their families, and a splash party.  Paige had mentioned way back that she wanted a water gun for the party this year unlike last year when she wanted to play but was getting sprayed.

Rose had a suit too, but didn't really want to go in the splash area.  She spent a lot of time playing in the sand.

Mike was able to take the time off to be there, and Henry was very well behaved.  A super hot day too which was great for the kids with their water play time.

So that is it! She's officially a grade 1 student.  Unbelievable.  I feel really positive about her kindergarten experience this year.  She did well on her report card again.  Everything was positive, and the things she has to "work on", are basically just continuing to read more challenging books, and challenging herself mathematically.  Essentially she was doing really well.  I see a big difference in her this year at the end of the year.  Her friendships are stronger and she is way more confident.  Sometimes she can be a tiny bit shy but at the school she's calling out to friends and even teachers.  After school the other day she popped her head back in the school and yelled, "Hi Mr. Connely!".  I never would have done that.  I always thought the grade 1's looked so much older than the kindergartens, and I can now see that she's there.  She may be small, but she has definitely grown up so much over the year.

Congrats Paige!!

Smiles

Henry started smiling around 6 weeks.  They're not super consistent as he's often over tired or in need of a nap, but when they do happen it is the cutest thing.

Bike riding...

Big success! Back in April Paige learned how to ride her two wheeler with no training wheels!

She started off riding it occasionally, but as it didn't take long for her to become confident she started riding her bike daily! Rose hops on her trike too and off they zoom around the street. Chloe from across the street and Marissa from next door are usually out there as well, and sometimes Emily from 3 doors down (2.5, 3, and 2 years old) The three trike riders swap trikes and blast around. The neighbors have other ride on toys too that the girls love to borrow. We all have water tables, so someone usually gets one out. If I can get Henry to sleep properly it is very relaxing to just watch the girls play while soaking up the nice weather with a coffee and a snack. The monitor works all the way down to Emily's house so we can wander around between houses.

Sad that we'll be leaving behind a nice group of friends for both the girls and I. Plus it is Rose's first time to have friends her age to play with regularly.

Back to the bikes though. I love love love that the girls are getting outside in the morning while its not to hot and actually getting exercise! We were cooped up for so long with the cold weather and the pregnancy that its so great for them. So proud of Paige that she just jumped on that bike and learned so fast.

Bedtime reading...

Paige has been looking at "Where's Waldo" in bed every night with a flashlight. She can basically read everything now and is onto finding the extra items listed in the back of the book.
I am so so so impressed with her reading skills.

Dance recital 2013

Paige did a great job at her second recital.  It was so cute I could hardly stand it.  I held off the makeup last year, but did it this year as I knew from the other parents that they were all doing it.  It was a bit weird close up, but on stage fit in with all of the other performers.

It was a long day.  Paige (and Henry), and I headed to Hamilton place for a few hours of dress rehearsals--her dances were far apart in the rehearsal schedule.  We then headed home for a bit, ate some pizza, did her makeup and off we went back to Hamilton!  It was a bit (very) stressful holding Henry and hoping he didn't cry, but he did well.  Paige's Jazz dance was at 8:30 or so, so we headed home straight after that even though the show was still going.  On the stage during her jazz routine she had a curly hair piece on as her hair was too short to do the curls that were required for the dance.  I just popped it right on top of her bun while the other moms were curling their daughters hair. They were quite jealous.  At any rate, with the curly hair and makeup I thought she looked just like my mom. :)
Can't wait for next year.  We'll have 2 dancers then!

Page Crescent Street Party

Long weekend Page Crescent street party.  There have been fireworks on the street before but we have generally missed them.  This was the first street party.  There were kids games, tattoos, potluck snacks, and fireworks.

Fireworks started at 9:30

Rose fell asleep instantly still holding her glow stick...

I had to take Henry inside just before fireworks started, and there was no way I could go back out.  I was way too tired, plus he wasn't ready to be transferred into his crib for me to go outside.

Henry's first month

As I write this, Henry is turning 1 month old tomorrow.  I can hardly remember where the month went.  One moment we're taking him to the hospital for his 24 hour tests, and now we're slowly getting into a routine.

Clearly our new routine is a lot busier than our old routine which is why there is a month update rather than a first week update, as I did for Rose.  As the month has gone by and I'm a little sleep deprived, it's harder to remember how everything unfolded in the early days.

Off the bat we made sure to get Henry sleeping in his crib.  Of course right away there were a lot of night time wake ups, and a lot of holding him and rocking him to sleep, but we got him in there right away. So far there have been some rough nights, but nothing horrendous.  Generally I am the one that needs to take care of him in the night of course, but Mike has helped out with what he can.
So far  his best night was a few days ago...a 7.5 hour stretch.  He woke up at 4:15 for the first time.  Really I forgot how much a new born sleeps.  Really he is barely awake for any long stretch of time before he needs to eat again and then have another nap.  Some are just short cat naps, and others can be 3 hours long or so.  A ride in the car or stroller generally guarantees a nap unless he has just woken up from a super long one.

I can't seem to properly sort these photos, and time isn't something I have, so i'll just have to leave them.

Henry, so far, has been a bit fussier than Rose. It's hard to tell with Paige as I was inexperienced and probably made her fussy. Henry has been a bit gassy and has been dealing with a diaper rash for a while now.-- A few things that sometimes make him a bit upset.  His cry sounds like a pterodactyl. We've had to learn what works to try to burp him, which is often difficult. Also we have to do the bicycle move on his legs a lot to relieve the excess gas. I think it's just something that will sort itself out as he already seems to be getting less gassy.

We wanted to try the cloth G diapers this time and they are awesome. It feels so good to avoid producing so much waste. As he is on breast milk only the poo is water soluble and they just go straight into washing machine with no work beforehand. Unfortunately he has a bad diaper rash now and they don't absorb as well so we have had to put them on the backburner for a while until the issue is sorted. Apparently it could be a yeast diaper rash so we have a prescription.

Speaking of the diapers and laundry, I have almost been doing laundry every day. He needs a ton of cloths to wipe his bum, which we go through through quickly, he has peed through sleepers a lot, and lots of things have spit up on them. Between all of that and the girls and mike and I, there's basically something almost every day. Our upstairs laundry will be handy in the new house for that reason!

So far he has been super easy to take places. Except for a couple of occasions, if he goes in a car he generally will fall asleep and stay sleeping in the car seat long after we have gotten to our destination. It makes it easy to take Rose to her class and spend undivided attention with her, or go shopping, etc. It's also a good thing if he is in desperate need of a nap.  The girls used to fall asleep in the swing, but so far he doesn't like it. Sometimes he'll have a quick nap in the bouncy chair. He really loves the bouncy chair and will sit in it when awake and just look around. I've also used a swaddley carrier thing to carry him around.

We had a great visit with Grandma Val when Henry was 1 week old. We hung around the house quite a bit but also managed to go to Second Cup a few times, go to Springridge Farm, walk Paige to school, and go to Rose's class.  She also got to see the new house when we went for the pool inspection.  Grandma Val really got to spend a lot of time with Henry as he doesn't always need to be nursed to go to sleep as Rose did.  He likes being held a lot and will drift off to sleep, or need a good walking around. It was really sad when she had to go and I always feel bad that she's not around all the time to watch these kids grow up.  On the plus side it did feel like we had seen her recently as it wasn't long ago we were all in Florida.

As busy as it has been, and as difficult as it often is to look after all the kids and fit in Scout's walks, I think life with 3 will be fun! Looking forward to Henry's first smiles in his second month! Hope we can get him out in the fresh air a bit more, and hope he can sort out his gas issues as he gets bigger.  Poor little guy. So happy to have a little boy.  And such a cute one.
