Lately the girls have been enjoying the music of the Lion King (Hakuna Matata specifically), and most recently the sound track to "Rio". While in the Gap last week one of the songs from Rio came on and Rose started yelling "Rio! Rio!" and doing her trotty dance around the store. I could hear the salespeople saying, "Is she saying Rio?....aww that's so cute".
Both girls love listening to music on Paige's little CD player and dancing around the room. For Rose's birthday I'm ordering the soundtrack to the "Wishes" fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom. She loves the fireworks and the music.
Oh, also from the Lion King--Paige loves to belt out the beginning of the Circle of Life while in public. The song starts out with a loud yelling in the African Language zulu (I just looked it up). She just makes it up and yells it really loud. Fun when your kids innocently do something to embarrass you...

Puppy...
We have talked about getting a dog for a while now, knowing that some day we would. Mike was set on getting a lab as he wanted a hunting dog. I think a lab is a good idea too as it is supposedly one of the best family dogs. It must be the most popular dog in Canada, US and Britain for a reason. Anyway, I sent an inquiry out in my facebook status about labrador retrievers and was reminded by Marilyn Barr that she has a friend who breeds them in Ontario. I checked them out and they had 2 litters due the following week. Talk about the moon and stars aligning. We took this as a sign and contacted the breeders who did indeed have puppies available. We placed a hold on a yellow female by sending in a deposit. Now all we have to do is wait for 6 more weeks and she'll be ready to come home with us!
The breeders will help us select the dog since they live 3 hours away. We didn't really want to add in an extra trip. They are aware she will be a hunting and family dog and have promised they will pick a great dog for us.
I think we'll be ok with a dog. She'll get a lot of exercise, I'm home during the day, and Mike has enough free time to train her. She'll love the cottage and will be a great companion for the girls, easily fitting in to our schedule. Even though it will be a lot of work, and a random stranger at dance class overheard me talking about the new dog and gave me the unsolicited advice to "really think about it", I think we have the time to invest in this new addition to the family.
So now we wait. We have 2 dog toys at home, but need to stock up on everything else. Boy-- this 6 weeks wait for our new family member a lot easier then the last 6 weeks of pregnancy...
This is where she's from. She's in one of these photos, just not sure which one she is....;)

Horsie ride gone wrong...
Rose saw this horsie ride at the mall the other day and talked about it the entire time we shopped, patiently waiting to go on it. She lasted for approximately 3 seconds on it before she asked to get off. I quickly put Paige on it for the rest of the ride....

Unseasonably warm...
As we were playing outside in the ridiculous warmth yesterday, we heard the ice cream truck off in the distance. It was already 4:30, but the novelty factor of getting ice cream from the truck in mid March was too high to resist. I gathered up the money and we ran back and forth between the backyard and front door waiting until it got closer at which point we waited curbside.
Paige picked chocolate and I ordered "swirl" for Rose. Boy was Rose excited about this random happening.
The cones started dripping right away and they struggled to eat them. We went through many a cloth.
At first Rose didn't want to eat the cone and was dipping her finger in to get out all the ice cream. Paige was offering to eat Rose's cone, at which point she backed herself into this corner and sat down trying to be alone. Finally she gave her cone to Paige who finished it off.
When they were finished eating them we went back into the backyard to finish our yardwork (wiping down the table and chairs, raking, triming plants back, etc.). Every so often Rose would hear the truck and yell "it's coming!!!" and jump up and down and run to the gate.
After the late day giant cones, Rose still ate all her dinner but Paige was pretty full.

Dress up...
Rose loves to grab things out of the dress up bin and throw together an outfit. Here is one she put on mainly by herself. I had to help with the wings. She also is wearing unicorn crocs. My friend Steph was over and was laughing hysterically. She said Rose reminded her of the scene in E.T. where Drew Barrymore's character dresses up E.T.
Rose after the party...
When Paige and I arrived home after the birthday party, Rose had just got up from her nap. After I snapped the photos of Paige Rose insisted I take her picture in the same spot.
Birthday party...
Here is Paige in her party dress. She went to her first ever drop off party for her friend Rebekah from school. She has had numerous party invites since the start of the year, but I decided to limit it to the girls who are her actual friends. I don't think it makes sense for her to attend lots of parties, bringing gifts, etc. when she is not going to invite all these people to her party in July.
Rebekah's party was a "glamour girl" party where the girls had their hair, makeup, and nails done. Paige reiterated for months before this party that she wouldn't want her makeup done, and when I picked her up she'd only had her hair and nails done. I was kind of relieved. No need for makeup at this age in my mind. But the party looked quite cute. Apparently they dressed up and had a fashion show too. She came home with a group photo.
This is Paige after the party posing. She showed me some "fashion poses" with pouty lips and squinty eyes that they must have been taught.

First bike ride of the season, and Rose's first ever bike ride...
This was on March 6. A really nice day for a bike ride to the park. We hadn't been to the park yet this year (well not in Burlington anyway....Or actually we did one day before we went to Orlando, but it ended up being colder than anticipated and it was not very fun)

lol
In the car while running errands:
Paige: "Mom! That car had 2 winter tires and 2 all season tires!"
I knew she knew about winter tires having black hubcaps, but all season!?

Not working!!
Rose's new phrase when she's trying to put on her shoes, open a flap in a lift-a-flap book, open her water lid, etc.
"Not working! Iss not working Mommy!!!"
