1000 Awesome things...

I encourage everyone to read this site if you need to brighten your day:

www.1000awesomethings.com

The author is the same age as me so I can relate a lot to what he says, especially childhood reminiscing. The blog was just released in book format and I may get that as well eventually. For now I read the site on my iPhone as I rock Rose back to sleep in the night. I silently laugh hysterically in the night as I read about completely random things from daily life. AWESOME!

First cold...

When you have your first child you try with all of your might not to get your child sick...washing hands frequently, disinfecting soothers, sanitizing doorknobs, staying away from sick people and big crowds, etc. With the second child there is no point. The older sibling pokes, prods, kisses, breaths, and sneezes on their sibling. We were busy thinking that Paige was sick, and in reality it was Rose that got sick! So small and young for a first illness! Although Mike and I are getting sick, so who knows who got who sick. When I was up with Rose in the night she sounded snorkle-y, and when she was up for the day, she was definitely sick. Poor little thing. It is hard to feed her as she can't breath, but at least she is still able to feed. I just try to feed her less more frequently. I just took her to the doctor and she is fine, but I was told to take her to the emergency room if she develops a fever since she is just small. I told Paige this morning that Rose was sick and mommy would have to hold her a lot. Paige has watched a lot of tv today, but when I discovered how to use my sling effectively I was able to play hide and seek with Paige and play with my jewellery (she likes doing this) without having to have all hands occupied. With the sling I still have to support her head, but I don't actually have to carry the weight of her body around. Mike looked after Paige while I took Rose to the doctor, but he is working so she is watching more tv. I decided to catch up on the blog a bit while she finishes her show and Rose is zonked out.

She had a nap!!!

We thought Paige was sick, but turns out she got the last of her molars in. We wondered when that would happen as they are called "2 year molars" for a reason. At any rate, they poked through and she was in a bad mood. I told her she would feel better if she had a nap. Ha! I brought her upstairs and put her in bed and SHE ACTUALLY SLEPT! An hour went by and she called me and I went in. She was still very sleepy and I offered to read her a book and she said no. Rose started to cry and I left her room, and when I went back she was asleep again and slept for an hour longer! This was her first nap in months and months...probably about 10 months or so? Seems like it anyway. I don't think she had a nap my entire preganancy, so probably at least that long! At the same time, Rose was very sleepy and I held her and watched an entire 2 hour show. She was awake but content for the most of the 2 hours, and would nod off for a while. The house felt very quiet and strange. I am used to being busy, so I felt really yucky after from sitting around so long in the middle of the afternoon. But I'm not complaining! Just saying...

The Turcsanyi-McLaren combination of freakish neck strength...

She's still not as strong as Paige was so we give her lots of tummy time to develop those neck muscles, but as you can see she's pretty tough and capable for a 3 week old.

Tummy Time...

Fun times...

Just the 3 of us girls...

After waking up to a scummy weather day yesterday, and thinking about a long day indoors, I decided we would go to Busy Bodies for a couple of hours so Paige could burn off some energy. We went at 11:00 and arrived there to discover a packed house. Luckily most kids actually nap after lunch, and it was cleared out in an hour. Rose slept for the first while and woke up with a poo blow out all over her outfit. Luckliy I had a spare. I had to run after Paige in the maze telling her she had to come with me to the bathroom ASAP to change the diaper. The rest of the visit went fine, although we stayed too long and Paige freaked out at a little girl in the washroom who tried to use her hot air hand dryer. Time to go home. Then in the afternoon, Andrea stopped by with baby Liam who had grown about 2 feet in a month and crawled all over the place. All in all, a great second day just the 3 of us girls. The previous day, we went to Paige's class, On My Own. It was nice to have little Rose with me while Paige was in the class. Again she slept and woke up to eat. I had a tea and sent messages on my phone. Easy day. Generally, it is easy to take Rose places as she will fall asleep. This morning we tackled the chore of going to the grocery store, which was my fear. I discovered I could fit the car seat in the top basket, and Paige in the seat, and we were good to go. Paige liked having Rose with her in there.

My mother's day present from my wonderful husband and little girls...

Apparently, the tote bag is from Mike, the purse is from Paige, and the wallet is from Rose...all from Coach. There were also some lovely bath things from Lush. I know I was spoiled...
Mother's day is always a bit tough, but having my own little girls makes me happy and distracts me from feeling sad.
Like I said, we had a nice mother's day with Grandma Val here (we celebrated on the Saturday since she was leaving at 10:45 on Sunday). But on the Sunday evening Mike ran out and got Baskin Robbins...yum!

Hmm...maybe Grandma Val should book another flight back here ASAP!

Doling out the Vitamin D drops. Yuck!

Woah, I look tired, but I wasn't really. Good sleeps all around.

Grandma Val left on Sunday. Come back Grandma Val! No, we are doing fine, it was just a really nice visit with Grandma Val and we hope she can come back soon! Not to mention that having an extra set of hands around the house was a nice treat. Like I said before, we took Paige to play groups, an indoor playground, and to the park. Grandma Val spoiled Paige with presents to the point where Paige was actually asking her for more. We ended the week with a lovely dinner at my dad and Maura's house, and a mother's day lunch at East Side Marios, complete with a shopping extravaganza at the mall. It will be great for us to go back to St. Albert in August so we can have more visiting time. I'm sure Paige will be thrilled to see her again and ask for more gifts.

She's growing!

No wonder I am so hungry and thirsty all of the time. Rose has been eating like crazy and has gained over a pound in the last week! When she was born she was 7lbs 11oz. Then at her appointment on the 28th she weighed 7lbs 8oz. And today...wait for it....9lbs 2oz!!! What on earth??? I had thought she was visibly bigger.

She has continued to wake up only once in the night time to eat, but she obviously doesn't need the extra night time nutrition! I feel very lucky as I know some babies wake up every 2 hours in the night. I just couldn't handle that. Paige woke up a lot more than that. Partly, I think, because she had a soother in the night and would wake up wanting it. Rose, so far, doesn't take a soother in the night, and not much during the day either.

We've had some great outings with Rose this week. Grandma Val and I took her to Busy Bodies and Our Special Time with Paige. She was very content and easy to please on both occasions. Sleeping and waking up to eat.
