Update

So after the week long rage-fest at bedtime I implemented the sticker sleep chart. After 1 night she was sleeping through the night every night and going to bed fine. This was particularly nice to have some rest over Christmas. I think that not only did the chart help, but the new very nonchalant attitude regarding quiet time helped as well. I began to put her in her bed for quiet time after lunch, read her a few books, and then tell her I would be back in half an hour. After half an hour was up I would come in and say that quiet time was over. I would tell her what I did for quiet time as well (usually lie down!). I think this made her feel like her bed was less of a jail and more of a fun place to be. Half an hour is just enough time before she starts to call for me to come in and get her.

At bed time she now reads books with daddy or mommy, looks at them on her own for a bit, and then calls me in to take her to the bathroom one last time. It is usually quite a long time in the bathroom as she will wait until she forces out the most tiniest amount, at which point she is happy to get back in bed. While in the bathroom she talks and talks and talks, and I try to minimize my responses and stay quiet! This whole thing is quite the production, but I much prefer this to the rage-fest, obviously. And if squeezing out the tiniest amount on the potty is what makes her sleep all night long, then fine!

Paige's talking makes me laugh. She adds on so many expressions to her sentences, like these couple from the past day: "didn't we?", and "I don't want to do that anymore, nope". She does it all the time that I find it hard to keep track and remember them all. I am constantly laughing and smiling from all of the new things I hear her say. I find myself jumping on bad grammar as well. This morning she said, "I didn't do nothing with the tv". UGH. I had to tell her "I didn't do anything" was the more appropriate thing to say. I just can't let it go. Using the word "nothing" instead of "anything" makes me feel ill. Blech! Along with using the word "seen" instead of "saw". Blech! Blech!!

Paige's room...almost complete!

Her girly room! It is now my most favourite room in the house!

It will be nice when the bed rail goes...
Soft rug to hide the coffee stains from the former office...Paige is convinced it's a blanket.
The over-the-top crystal chandelier.

Her cozy reading corner.
Crystal butterfly accents, and ribbon tie top sheers.

I only wanted sheers since her room is so dark, and these ones were nice since the ribbon top adds a little something extra.

We took this picture on Boxing Day when the chair was just set up.

Christmas Part 3: The aftermath

On Boxing day we went to Dad and Maura's to exchange the last of the gifts with Amanda, James, and Greg. We had a yummy yummy brunch of crepes. After the gifts and breakfast we proceeded to play lots and lots of Wii and Wii fit! Family exercise time!

On the 27th we gathered up a few Pottery Barn Kids gift certificates and proceeded to leave the house to go to the store to complete Paige's room. "Watch out the steps are slippery", Mike said. He took Paige to the car. I locked up the door walked down a couple of steps, and before I knew it I was on the ground breaking my fall with my lower back hitting the final small step onto the driveway. Pain! Pain!! I didn't hit my stomach or anything, so I wasn't worried about that, but it was quite scary and unexpected. I got in the car a bit shaken up but we went off to do our shopping. I also figured the longish car ride and the heated seat might be nice for my aching back. After shopping for a bit it was really in pain, and we sat for a bit of lunch before going home. While we were having the lunch I discovered I no longer had a wallet. And when we got home I really discovered that I no longer had a wallet. After a day of lying down, racking my brain on the location of the wallet, and physically searching every part of the house, we figured it was gone and cancelled my credit cards.

When I got up yesterday I felt a bit better, but couldn't really lift my right leg up very much, and still have a bit of trouble. I was able to finally begin to call some places where we were on the 24th to try to retrieve the lost wallet (everything was closed before that due to the holidays). The first place I called was the AGO (art gallery) and they had it! We decided to drive down there right away since the traffic was light yesterday. Mike waited outside with Paige while I waited for 40 minutes to retrieve my wallet as they had a problem with their safe. But at least it isn't lost!!

Paige's room was completed after that and I will definitely post photos of her room almost complete!!

Christmas Part 2: The afternoon and evening

We went to Grandma and Grandpa's after lunch for a gift exchange and then gear up to dinner! There were 16 of us I think, and a 30lb monster turkey.

I was wiped at the end of the day (and full!) I opted for 5 minutes of "quiet beached out time".

Christmas Part 1: The Morning

Paige was up early, so we went to get daddy. At this point Paige wasn't quite sure about the legitimacy of this whole "Santa" thing. She peered around the corner and spied her Diego Animal Rescue centre. "What's that??" she said.
After opening her stocking she opened the stocking that Santa got for the baby...it had a bottle, diaper, and soothers.
After a big breakfast of french toast and fruit we opened the rest of the gifts. It was quite a long process as we would play with each item for a while before going onto the next. Once she got the hang of it though she would sometimes grab a random present and start to open it!She was very excited about her Thomas the train track set.

We were able to drag out Christmas morning (including breakfast and present opening) until about 12:00.

Christmas Eve...

On Christmas Eve we woke up early and met Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Greg at the house then proceeded to the Go station to jump on the 9:08 train downtown. We were going to see the King Tut exhibit. I had been gearing Paige up for a few weeks about going on the big green train. She really liked the train but was a bit quiet in the morning from being woken up from completely sleeping. Jumping ahead, the train ride home was much more exciting for her as she was awake and was yelling "choo choo! LOUDER! CHOO CHOO!!!" to the full train. Anyway, when we got downtown we also had to take a subway ride up to the AGO for the exhibit. The exhibit was quite interesting and reminded me of many things I had long forgotten from University. Paige particularly enjoyed a short looped movie showing how King Tut was encased in a set of 4 or 5 nesting sarcophagus's. Later at night she said, "King Tut was in a box!". We all went to see the 3D movie about Ramses and Egypt after the exhibit. We actually had to pay $5 for Paige to watch it. She took her glasses on and off then started to get a bit restless, but stayed quiet luckily. We all went for lunch afterwards at Elephant and Castle. She was pretty much a star all day and didn't make a fuss whatsoever, even though the day was clearly not all kid-friendly.

After the exhibit we headed back home where I had a nap and then proceeded to make a cake for Christmas day. We had perogies for dinner and then set up for Santa's arrival. A long day for Paige but since she had a little nap on the way home in the car, she went to bed at 10:30!

Babysitting Amy...

Amy came over this morning while her parents went to buy her Christmas presents (at the Disney store--she loves Disney princesses and all things princess!) It was actually a lot of fun for Paige to have a friend to play with for the morning (she hasn't had this at all since the summer). And I felt it was nice to stay in and have a tea while they played without feeling bored or like the morning was dragging on. I hope she comes back soon! The funny thing was that they sometimes played separately--Amy in Paige's room and Paige in the loft. I had to go back and forth to see them and sometimes they would close the door and tell me to go away. So I did get my new calendar started for next year, and made a "sleep"chart" for Paige (similar to a potty chart--hoping it will morivate her to fall asleep nicely without raging out hardcore). It would be nice if it were this easy with Paige and her sibling!

Christmas dinner with the Masoure/Linton's

We had our first Christmas dinner of the season last night when we went to my Dad and Maura's house along with the Masoure's and Linton's (my mom's side of the family). We also got to celebrate my Grandma's 85th birthday with some cake.

I just had to get a shot of this before we get there on Christmas day and some of them are opened. I'm still not quite sure how there are so many presents. Like my 6 year old cousin Tyler said, "why are there so many presents when there are no kids??" (he doesn't see us as kids, but I certainly do, and said that this better be the standard for every year...and when the new baby comes and more kids join the family the number per person isn't allowed to decrease!) To get some perspective you can see Paige in the far right...she is the size of about 1.5 presents. My dad apparently had to spread them out as they were piled up high above the windowsill and visible from the street!

Grandma (Paige's Great Grandma) and Aunt Leslie.

Maura was going so crazy in the kitchen that she is only a blur!

Damn you Christmas baking!!!

Expect to see a huge jump in weight gain (logged on the right side of the screen) in the next 2 weeks. Christmas is too much for pregnancy hormones. I just can't help myself. And today at the Christmas party there was a literal home baked and store-bought buffet of yuminess. I couldn't resist and took a cupcake for Paige and a brownie for myself. Paige assumed the food was all for her and when I took a bite of my brownie she yelled, "take it out!".

As I was loading up I heard the mom next to me say, "no, we need to have a healthy snack" to her kid. Is it wrong that I'm practically forcing Paige to eat the sweets by choosing a cupcake first and putting some orange slices on the plate for show? I know she won't eat them...but how will it look otherwise???
