Food good...

Well, something clicked. She likes food. It was almost overnight. I partially attribute it to switching cereal brands...from Heinz baby cereal (which we fed Paige) to Nestle baby cereals. She definitely liked the latter brand better. And shortly after liking cereal, she started to like any vegetable or fruit we'd give her. She eats rice and oat cereals, carrots, butternut squash, creamed corn, green beans, peas, sweet potato, applesauce, pear and banana. Those are the only things we've tried so far, I think. I have made a bit of food, and plan to make more--we needed her to eat something though before I made too much. Now that I know she is into eating in general, I borrowed some baby food books from the library and plan to spend a few hours on the weekend making and freezing some food.

We've also given her some baby mum mums. We can't allow her to hold the whole bisquit and gnaw away--she bites off huge chunks, which are a choking hazard. Instead we break it into tiny bits and scatter them on her tray. She picks them up and eats them (they basically disolve in her mouth). Good for manual dexterity and pincer grasp...but also good for diversion and distracting her while we are trying to finish up dinner.

Crawling perfected...

She's on the move. At the beginning of December, she began to move forward rather than backward. She started off with a few forward scoots, awkwardly trying out different leg/arm combos to attempt forward motion. Fast forward a few weeks and she is all over the house. If she sees something she wants down the hall, off she goes!

The baby gate isn't installed yet as I keep her with me at all times, but we need to put it up soon. Paige's toys are a huge hazard too, another reason I have to keep her with me. It was easy to vaccuum today as she followed me into each room and was always in sight.

Weeee!

Boxing Day...

As the festivities were a little too intense the day before, we saved some present opening until Boxing Day. We joined Amanda, James, Greg, and Mary at Grandma and Grandpa's house for a nice relaxed crepe breakfast followed by present opening (then lunch, a walk, and some mid-afternoon dessert!).

Christmas night...

In the afternoon we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house for Christmas with the McLaren's and Weber's! Paige had fun playing with some kids around her age. I wish I could say Rose had fun, but her teeth were bothering her, and the big crowd was intimidating. Lots of yummy food and fun though. Yet another event where we were dressed up and forgot to take a family photo. We did get a big group shot though that I'll add to the blog later.

Christmas morning...

Crawling to inspect what Santa left:

Disbelief at the full stockings and hobby horse:

Train from Santa:

Everyone went a little overboard (us plus 3 boxes of stuff that arrived from St. Albert):

Hobby horse mania:

The shopping cart and pretend food all wrapped up:

The damage:

Christmas with 2 kids is crazy. Double the presents, double the time to open them, double the mess. Rose woke up before Paige which allowed us to wait for her to wake up and open all of the stockings together. After stockings we had a french toast and smoothie breakfast, followed by present opening. Next year we'll have to open a bit faster....we were trying to take our time and enjoy it, but it took too long. Maybe we'll have to double up or let Paige open hers quickly.

Christmas Holiday activities....

Leading up to Christmas we had the Craigey's over for lunch:
And we went for our second annual family Christmas Eve outing. We (Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle Greg, and us), went to the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) for the day. We showed Paige the massive dinosaur skeletons in the new wing of the museum, the stuffed animals, and her favourite thing--the bat cave which she had to go through 5 times--once with each of us. The rest of us enjoyed the Chinese Terracotta Warriors exhibit which wasn't as fun for her. After the museum, we went to a pub for lunch.

Christmas Town

I don't know if I mentioned in the blog about how I spent an entire day back in October trying to get tickets to Christmas town at Mountsberg Conservation area? Well, I did. I didn't get tickets, but was called from the waiting list at the beginning of December! Woohoo! We went on the 23rd for the 1:00 horse-drawn wagon ride into Christmas Town. Christmas town contains Santa's cabin that he stays in for a month before Christmas, as well as elf academy, flight school, parcel pickup, and Mrs. Claus' kitchen. We listened to Christmas music in our wagon as it carried us and a few other families across the snow for a 10 minute or so journey into Christmas town.

Before the wagon ride we wrote a letter to Santa which we got to hand-deliver to him at his cabin.

The letter. I think someone she knows has a pretend toothbrush and toothpaste for a doll...I wasn't sure what else that could mean. And she saw the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer stuffy guy on every page of the toys r us catalogue earlier, and added that at the last second:

As we were approching Christmas Town, the temporary North Pole informed us that we had arrived at our destination:

Parcel pickup where presents were being wrapped:

Time Zones, and Reindeer tracker:

In Mrs. Claus' kitchen:

Candies decorating the ceiling:

The kids were called individually to meet with Santa one-on-one. While waiting we got to decorate and eat cookies, and make a Christmas ornament.

Rose was very well-behaved and seemed to enjoy the sights:

The biggest horses I have ever seen in my life. Percheron horses.

The cabin:

Paige didn't say a single word, only nodded. Good thing we brought the list! Luckily, Santa chose to talk about the hobby horse, since some of the other things she asked for on the list were not in her stocking and were last minute add-ons.

The cabin was warm and cozy with a blazing fire. Paige was in shock when we walked in and it was just her and no other kids. A bit intimidating, but she was definitely in awe.

Even though Rose didn't have a ticket, in the true Christmas spirit, Santa asked if she would like to sit on his knee. Didn't go over so well again.

Santa asked Paige if she could do something for him on Christmas Eve. She nodded. "Can you please leave out some carrots for the Reindeer?", he asked. "They get very hungry flying all over the world". More nodding.

After the visit was over, back at the elf academy:

The fresh air did us all good. Paige fell asleep in the car and continued to sleep at home until I decided to wake her up after a good long nap.
