Born in 2007....

This is along the lines of the needing hand sanitizer comment....

As we were leaving the grocery store yesterday in the +35 degree heat Paige says, "Mom, it's too hot, we need to go back in the air conditioning".

Girls in Green...

Mommy's picnic mix-up...

On Monday we thought it would be a great idea to pack up a picnic lunch and head down to Coronation park for a picnic and trip to the splash park. We did just that but when we got there it was far too busy to park, and the splash park was under construction.  We headed down to the waterfront in downtown burlington instead.  We found a parking spot and joined the masses of other picnicing people and splashers.  We set up our picnic lunch and then panic washed over me.  The diapers never made it into the diaper bag! Rose was asleep with a pee diaper no doubt, and would need a change when she woke up.  We did have one diaper, but that was not going to tie us over for very long.  Even if we asked another parent of an infant for a diaper, you never know if you need 1 diaper for an afternoon, or 6.  I spent the majority of my lunch time looking up phone numbers of convenience stores near by and calling them to see if they were a)open (it was a holiday!), and b)had any diapers.  One place had pull ups and that was it.  We decided we would have to go home and then swing by another splash park after feeding and changing her at home (she peed again after her nap in the 1 spare diaper).  So we finished up our lunch, Mike and Paige played with a ball for a while, and we walked back to the car.

Don't worry--Rose wasn't in the sun, just for the picture...in the 1 spare diaper!

Anyway, we made it to the next "splash park" which was very sad.  The water wasn't on and there were numerous kids there, Paige included, wearing their bathing suits.  Instead it was hot as heck with no relief in the direct sun. We stayed for only a while and then went home and set up a blow up pool for Paige to splash in (i wish i had pictures--she was sliding into it from the slide and having a blast!). What an action packed day.  By the time the backyard swimming was done it was about 5:00.  And Rose pretty much slept all day....and went to bed late!

Clara and Amy's Birthday party

Amy and Clara turn 3 this week. Amy on the 24th and Clara on the 27th. They had a joint birthday party and the guest was Paige. Rose is starting to smile for real now.

Amy in her fairy dress.
The girls make crown and wand crafts. Great when the party hosts are teachers. They know how to do these things up.

The girls in their finished crown crafts and face painting.

Rose slept in here for a few hours...

Waiting for the cake to be transferred onto the table.

The girls are starting to go downhill. Lots of crazy playing and excitement. Notice Paige's pouty lip and rubbing eyes. The other girls were saying "what's wrong? We were so worried about you." haha
Awesome cake!!

I had to leave her in here long enough to eat cake and then take her out so she would wake up!
Yum! Paige's favourite thing...icing!

The girls had so much fun that they were completely wound up at the end. When we got home it was past Paige's bed time but she needed a shower to take off the cake, glue, facepaint, sweat, icing, etc. She was mad and then was yelling, "I NOT TIRED!!!" when she got in bed. Ya right. It was tons of fun though.

Awesome eyes!

Yesterday my eye became very sore, pussy, and then swollen. In the night it was so swollen it was almost completely closed. And every time I woke up, the left eye was crusted shut. By the morning it was starting in the other eye as well. And when Rose got up for the day, she had it too. We went to the medicentre and have contagious pink eye. Awesome! It feels really awful, but luckily we have drops that should clear it up quickly, and we won't be contagious within 24 hours. In the meantime the trick is to keep Paige from getting it. Lots of hand washing and no touching eyes!

1000 Awesome things...

I encourage everyone to read this site if you need to brighten your day:

www.1000awesomethings.com

The author is the same age as me so I can relate a lot to what he says, especially childhood reminiscing. The blog was just released in book format and I may get that as well eventually. For now I read the site on my iPhone as I rock Rose back to sleep in the night. I silently laugh hysterically in the night as I read about completely random things from daily life. AWESOME!

First cold...

When you have your first child you try with all of your might not to get your child sick...washing hands frequently, disinfecting soothers, sanitizing doorknobs, staying away from sick people and big crowds, etc. With the second child there is no point. The older sibling pokes, prods, kisses, breaths, and sneezes on their sibling. We were busy thinking that Paige was sick, and in reality it was Rose that got sick! So small and young for a first illness! Although Mike and I are getting sick, so who knows who got who sick. When I was up with Rose in the night she sounded snorkle-y, and when she was up for the day, she was definitely sick. Poor little thing. It is hard to feed her as she can't breath, but at least she is still able to feed. I just try to feed her less more frequently. I just took her to the doctor and she is fine, but I was told to take her to the emergency room if she develops a fever since she is just small. I told Paige this morning that Rose was sick and mommy would have to hold her a lot. Paige has watched a lot of tv today, but when I discovered how to use my sling effectively I was able to play hide and seek with Paige and play with my jewellery (she likes doing this) without having to have all hands occupied. With the sling I still have to support her head, but I don't actually have to carry the weight of her body around. Mike looked after Paige while I took Rose to the doctor, but he is working so she is watching more tv. I decided to catch up on the blog a bit while she finishes her show and Rose is zonked out.

She had a nap!!!

We thought Paige was sick, but turns out she got the last of her molars in. We wondered when that would happen as they are called "2 year molars" for a reason. At any rate, they poked through and she was in a bad mood. I told her she would feel better if she had a nap. Ha! I brought her upstairs and put her in bed and SHE ACTUALLY SLEPT! An hour went by and she called me and I went in. She was still very sleepy and I offered to read her a book and she said no. Rose started to cry and I left her room, and when I went back she was asleep again and slept for an hour longer! This was her first nap in months and months...probably about 10 months or so? Seems like it anyway. I don't think she had a nap my entire preganancy, so probably at least that long! At the same time, Rose was very sleepy and I held her and watched an entire 2 hour show. She was awake but content for the most of the 2 hours, and would nod off for a while. The house felt very quiet and strange. I am used to being busy, so I felt really yucky after from sitting around so long in the middle of the afternoon. But I'm not complaining! Just saying...

The Turcsanyi-McLaren combination of freakish neck strength...

She's still not as strong as Paige was so we give her lots of tummy time to develop those neck muscles, but as you can see she's pretty tough and capable for a 3 week old.
